D-Link DSL-2730U Wireless Router Review
D-Link DSL-2730U Wireless Router Review
Pros : Glass Finish, Affordable, Small Size, Solid build quality, No connection drops.
Cons : Dust and Fingerprint magnet, Only for small Premises, Low Transmit Power.
Design
The router has a flat rectangular design with LED status indicators on top of it. There are 4 LAN ports on back of the router. D-Link has provided superior RJ45 cable, telephone line cords, splitter, power adaptor, installation CD, user manual and warranty card. The router comes in pure black color with yellow LAN slots. The power, WLAN and WPS buttons are on the back side of the router. The build quality of the device is amazing, the material of modem looks solid.
Specifications
The router is rectangular with dimensions 195.x 115.93x36.55 mm. The router supports 802.11b/g with some 802.11n features and provides Wireless speed: up to 54 Mbps (802.11g), 150 Mbps (802.11n). Frequency range of the device is 2.4 GHz to 2.484 GHz and also supports 64/128 bits WEP data encryption. The wireless antenna has transmitting power of 20 dBm. Some more features are IPv6 support, inbuilt NAT firewall, DDoS attack prevention, Dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), Static Routing, Parental Control (URL blocking, scheduling), PVC/VLAN port mapping, IGMP Snooping with 32 Multicast groups, Authentication: MAC address access Control.
Performance
I have a 4 Mbps connection and 2730-U picks up that speed very easily even on WLAN and mobile phone devices. There is no packet loss or connection drops during the connection. Now talking about its wireless strength, it will disappoint you if you plan to transmit internet over a large area, as its wireless transmitting strength is not much pleasing. If you have 3-4 rooms in your house, its perfect for you, but you might want to give a second thought if you are planning to install it somewhere like a shop.
Pricing
Flipkart has priced this router at Rs. 1,735, I bought it from a local shop for Rs. 2,000. Looking at other routers in similar price range, D-Link DSL-2730U seems to be the best deal. D-Link is a well known networking company and it hasn't disappointed me.
Final Verdict
After using the router for a while, the only problem I came across is the low wireless transmitting power. Which may bug you, but otherwise this is a great router. D-Link is providing 3 years carry-in warranty. So, if you are looking to buy a new wireless router this one is best buy in this price range.
