Best Laptop buying Guide February 2014

Laptops selling these days outnumber Desktop PCs by a huge margin, there is a primal reason for that. First they are Portable and go wherever you want them to go, be it your Bed, office, college etc. On the other hand Desktop PCs just stay at home and you are the one who has to sit up in front of them for your tasks.

Laptop Buying guide february 2014

But with Laptops come many problems, like Battery life, unsatisfactory displays, Heating issues etc. so when you buy a laptop, many queries cross your mind, and all of them have answers. But some misguided users and dealers lead the buyers to make some bad decisions and repent them later. I always try to answer all the questions in the comments section on my Monthly Laptop buying and build guides, but he questions keep coming, and almost all of them have some common question which I will try to answer here.

Best Laptop buying Guide February 2014

Does this laptop have heating Issues ?

No, most probably it doesn't have any Heating issues, try to run CPU-Z and GPU-Z to check up on working Temperatures, if they stay below 80-90 C while performing heavy tasks for long durations, then it is okay. Idle temperatures are supposed to be in the range of 35-45 C depending on your ambient temperatures.

Do AMD laptops heat up ?

No, they don't specifically, something wrong with Heatsink may cause heating issues to any laptop, and almost all brands and make of Laptops have some among them which have faulty Heating dissipators.

Can Ultrabooks be used for Heavy Gaming ?

Not always, mainly due to their slim design and less air circulation real estate.

Best laptops for Engineering Softwares ?

Nastran, Abaqus, CAD etc. require more processing power than those laptops geared towards Gaming purposes.

These were the some of many questions commonly asked to me, and I answered them here as I won't like to reply them again and again as it happens most of the time.

  3. I have to buy a new laptop and I'm thinking of buying the Lenovo Y510. My question should I buy it right now or wait for the new launches which may have the haswell refresh processors or the broadwell ones. Because this laptop is almost a year old.
